This residence is located on the historic site of an old Mill in Harrisville, NH. Constructed in the 1850s, the mill supplied lumber to Harrisville through the river system for a century, supporting the town's thriving industries. These businesses produced building lumber, furniture, and, most notably, clothespins for the textile industry. Unfortunately, the Wildwood Cottage, a small 1860s Greek Revival structure on the site, was beyond repair and had to be demolished, paving the way for a new residence.

The new single-family home features a simple gabled volume that echoes the original size and location of the Wildwood Cottage, now complemented by multiple shed roof additions that were conceived as their own traditional gable, opened up to create a glass entry hall. The glass entry focuses the view out to the landscape beyond. The structure is clad with vertical shou sugi ban siding, large black-clad windows and doors, and a black standing seam metal roof. It strikes a balance between contrasting with its natural surroundings and harmonizing with the landscape.

Inside, the home showcases a modern black-and-white aesthetic, accented by natural wood tones and an exposed concrete floor. Designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind, the house features a wood stove, radiant floors, photovoltaic panels, and a well-insulated, airtight envelope.
